Connecting Communities: Walsall Windrush Sisters at the Local History Fair
We were proud to take part in the Local History Fair at Walsall Central Library, showcasing the Walsall Windrush Sisters Project and sharing the incredible stories behind our exhibition.
The fair was a fantastic opportunity to connect with the community, spark conversations, and celebrate the legacies of Walsall’s Windrush generation. One theme ran throughout the day: the importance of finding, exploring, and celebrating one’s roots. Visitors were engaged, curious, and inspired to reflect on their own family histories; a perfect reflection of why our project exists.
Through these conversations, it became clear just how vital heritage work is in building community identity, pride, and understanding. The Walsall Windrush Sisters Project not only preserves the stories of Caribbean women who shaped our town but also encourages others to explore their own histories and connections.
Events like the Local History Fair are more than exhibitions, they are moments of learning, sharing, and inspiration, bringing the past into conversation with the present and future.
