Volunteer with Walsall Windrush Sisters
Join the Walsall Black Sisters Heritage Project
Be a part of local history
Support the community
Gain new skills and new connections
Support the building of Walsall’s Windrush legacy
Walsall’s Windrush Sisters is powered by local people — neighbours, storytellers, creatives, organisers, and anyone who cares about preserving the history of our African Caribbean women.
If you’ve got time, skills, curiosity, or just a genuine love for community, there’s a place for you here.
You don’t need experience. Just heart, respect, and a willingness to show up.
Ways you can get involved
-
Photo Documentary Volunteer
Help us capture the moments that tell the story — events, interviews, behind-the-scenes moments, and community life.
Perfect for anyone who loves photography and wants to build their portfolio while contributing to local heritage.
-
Digital Scanning Volunteer
Support the preservation of family photos, documents, and keepsakes by helping us digitise our growing archive. Great for detail-lovers and anyone curious about heritage work.
-
Admin Support Volunteer
Be the organisational glue behind the project — keeping records up to date, supporting communication, and helping the team run smoothly. Ideal for building office skills or returning to work.
-
Oral History Interview Support Volunteer
Help us create a calm, welcoming environment for participants. You’ll set up equipment, welcome interviewees, and support the interview process with sensitivity and care.
-
Transcribing Interviews Volunteer
Turn recorded stories into written transcripts that will be preserved for generations. Perfect for listeners, writers, and anyone who likes focused, meaningful work.
-
Events Support Volunteer
Be part of our community events and exhibitions — helping with set-up, registration, welcoming guests, and keeping everything flowing. Great for people who enjoy lively, social environments.
-
Advocacy Support Volunteer
Help participants feel heard, supported, and signposted to the right services. This role is for people who are calm, empathetic, and passionate about community care and empowerment.
