4th Annual Windrush Conference
4th Windrush International Conference: Exploring Legacy, Leadership and the Future
Walsall Black Sisters Collective took part in the 4th Windrush International Conference in Birmingham, hosted by the Windrush National Organisation. The event brought together a powerful cross-section of voices from grassroots organisers, academics, policy leaders, artists, and community advocates, all aligned around the theme “Legacy, Leadership, and the Future.”
Across the day, conversations centred on the issues shaping the next chapter for Caribbean and Black communities in Britain. Panels explored reparative justice, identity and belonging in a changing society, education reform, and the long-term economic empowerment of future generations. Every discussion pointed toward the same goal: driving forward a more equitable landscape built on truth, accountability, and cultural resilience.
The conference created space for shared learning, networking, and cross-sector collaboration, ensuring that community organisations like ours remain connected to national dialogues and policy conversations. It also reinforced the importance of heritage projects, lived experiences, and community-led storytelling in shaping the narrative around the Windrush legacy.
As an organisation, we’re proud to engage in these ongoing conversations and continue championing the stories, contributions, and lived experiences of the Windrush Generation here in Walsall. The insights gathered from the conference strengthen our mission and help position our local work within the wider national movement for recognition, justice, and long-term change.
